A local division of the Salvation Army recently received a donation of several thousand dollars from the combined efforts of two Jasper High School organizations. During the December Christmas holiday season, members of the JHS National Honor Society and Student Council spent three weekends collecting donations by “bell ringing” at the entrances of the local Jasper Walmart store. This past week, the fruit of the students’ labors was presented to Fleta Youngblood of the Salvation Army’s Jasper Service Unit, which services all of Jasper County. A check for more than $4,900 was donated, representing all of the monies that students collected during the bell-ringing fund-raising drive. “The Salvation Army is such a worthwhile cause,” said Becky Wilson, JHS National Honor Society faculty sponsor. “The kids, and even some of their parents, were very willing to help with the bell ringing. These young people were exceptionally generous with their time, and the community was just as generous with the donations. I am very proud of the students who were involved with this project.”
